HOW TO: Import Multiple Feeds into your Facebook Notes

To say that everyone uses Facebook would probably be a bit of an overstatement. However, those that do use Facebook strive to stay updated with their friends, family and other various users. Although most of us probably do not use Facebook notes as our main content publishing platform, there is an easy way to import your feed into Facebook notes.

But what if you have multiple feeds that you want to import? Since Facebook only gives you the option to import one, how would you go about importing more than one? By creating a ‘multiple feed pipe’ with Yahoo pipes and importing that feed into you notes app.

Step One: Creating the Pipe

Before you can import your feed, you must first create a pipe. This is a short an simple process, but you will need two things before you start:

  1. A Yahoo Account
  2. Two or More Feeds to Import (Obviously)

One you have the two above items, simply head on over to pipes.yahoo.com/pipes, click the ‘Create a Pipe’ tab and start piping your feeds. Choose the source on the left sidebar that suits your feed needs (most of you will be using ‘Fetch Site Feed’ source).

Simply drag the source to the editing area and start entering your various feeds. Watch this video tutorial gives more in depth information about piping your feeds.

When entering the ‘URLs’ of your various feeds, it is a best practice to use the actual feed from your site and not a secondary publisher (ex. Feedburner). Doing so allows the pipe to use the content directy from your site.

Step Two: Importing the Feed

Once you have your pipe created, importing the feed us a cinch. The following steps will walk you through the short process.

  • Visit your Facebook notes page.
  • Click the ‘Edit Import Settings’ link.
  • Copy and paste the Pipe’s RSS link we created above.
  • Check the required box and click Start Importing.

Next you will be taken to a preview of the import, give it a once over and (if approved) save you settings. Once again, this video will walk you through the process.

That about wraps up the tutorial. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments below.
